Some are careful examinations of principal characters associated with the early book, particularly the three witnesses and Joseph Smith’s family. These well-documented chapters list dozens of sources. Others examine connections to Jewish customs, or language patterns. His examination of different aspects of word phrases is fascinating. And Joseph Smith’s resume presents history in a startling and impressive way. This book is not, strictly speaking, apologetic, though he does make mention of alternative theories for the origin of the Book of Mormon (anything but divine origin). I really enjoyed his comparison of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon with J.R.R. Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings, as well as those who doubt the American moon landings. My favorite chapters address the personal effect of the Book of Mormon on individuals. I’m not a historian, and I’m not going to dig up all the facts surrounding the translation and publication of the Book of Mormon, and the lives of those who helped with it. So I appreciate these things in the book. But I am a reader, and this book points out how to make the Book of Mormon more meaningful in one’s own life. I appreciate that more. Everyone – scholar or no – can access the power of the Book of Mormon, and make their own discoveries, not only of facts and patterns, but of guidance in living this life. After reading this book, and reading the Book of Mormon with a renewed perspective, we could write our own books – “25 Reasons to Read the Book of Mormon.†That’s the emotional impact this book had on me. The book is highly readable; I had to exercise self-control and limit myself to a chapter a day, so I could spend a little time pondering and internalizing the “reason†for that day. I’ve read the Book of Mormon many times through the years. This book has enabled me to see it with new eyes. I have new respect for Mormon as editor and compiler of this epic history book. I look forward to getting a new copy of the Book of Mormon and finding more of my own reasons to believe!
A great compilation of internal evidences for the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. Won't convince a total skeptic, but that's not the target audience. Very readable and full of great insights.
This book is painful to read. Not a very intellectual attempt to look at evidences for faith. Very biased, doesn't even consider information contrary to his points.
This book is a compilation of many different studies of the Book of Mormon. It discusses the many Egyptian and Hebrew names found in the Book unknown in 1830 as well as numerous original phrases and literary styles. A great testimony of the Book of Mormon.
Thanks to Randal Wright for writing a book that logically explains that Joseph Smith could not have written the Book of Mormon and that it really is an authentic compilation of books written by inhabitants of the American continent from 400 BC to 600 AD.
