I wasn't expecting this to be such a great book, but what can I say but WOW! It had a great story line, the characters were interesting, the plot never slowed down. About halfway through, I thought I could guess how it was gonna end, but NOPE, I was dead wrong. (No pun intended.) And when an author can keep me guessing and manage to make me turn on the light to read the last few chapters, that's an author I will want to read again.

I enjoy Fowler"s Bryant and May books. Like those it's very readable, moves along, and is punctuated with Fowler's characteristic, sometimes dark, sometimes just witty, sense of humor. However, a promising premise, and a truly unique and interesting setting (both the house and the tiny Spanish village) sustain 3/4 of the book, before it falls into the "Why the hell doesn't she run away from there as fast as she can?" kind of story, almost a throwback to the HIBK Victorian and pre-Victorian gothics, but not the better ones. Good build-up, disappointing ending.

I generally like a ghost story with a slow burn but this book was too slow for too long , for my liking. Characters were pretty well developed, story line was decent but I kept turning the pages waiting for the climax that never fully developed. An OK read but nothing gripping.

The premise of this book was so intriguing and I wanted so badly to like it more than I did. The reveal of what is actually going on was clever; I have to admit I didn't see it coming. But there is a lot of frustrating redundancy in dialogue, and I just didn't believe the narrator on a psychological or emotional level too often for it not to be distracting.

This was a strange book. It was sort of confusing trying to figure out the light part of the house versus the dark part of the house. It also switched from the main character believing in the supernatural and then not believing the next minute quite a few times. The emotions of the characters were also a little hard to figure out. I did think the ending was pretty good though

I found the story to be interesting at first, but then nothing really happens, and it's almost like the author strung together a bunch of scenes of the cat jumping at you (in cheesy horror movies they always have a scene where the cat jumps at a character to frighten you, when it's really just a way to startle you before the big reveal) without ever getting to anything frightening. And I won't spoil the end, but I found it lame and sort of a groaner. It really didn't add anything to the horror and seemed more twisty for the sake of having a twist. The author can write well, but the story wasn't spooky, and overall I didn't think it was a particularly compelling read.

Powerfully written, this book will make you question whether you live in a dream or in a nightmare. The author blends two separate worlds so artfully that the reader is left questioning what was real and what was imagined as Callie let’s her story unfold. Couldn’t put it down. A definite “must read.”

I really liked this book. It kept getting more and more in depth as it went on. It kept me trying to guess what was going on the whole time. It had the creepy factor and the psychological factor that I enjoy.
